Gan Sinai – The Ruth and Samson Leamon Vegetable Garden

It was a fantastic first year for Gan Sinai, the Temple Sinai Vegetable Garden, which our young as well as adult members planted, tended and harvested.  This year we grew peppers, tomatoes, pumpkins, watermelons, beans, squash, herbs, peas, flowers, onions, carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, spinach, garlic, swiss chard, cabbage and more…!!!  Our garden is shaped in like a menorah.

Gan Sinai is a great opportunity to teach the kids about Jewish values related to food and the earth.  We use our harvests for kiddush and to give to those in need, in keeping with our righteous Biblical agricultural laws.

Our tradition is rooted in agriculture, and there is a growing movement of Jews reclaiming our connection with the land and the process of growing food.  While having fun at Gan Sinai, kids and adults foster a deeper connection with Judaism and the natural world.

As our harvest season comes to a close we’ll be turning the garden over soon, stay tuned for details to join for morning of fun and dirt!

Temple Sinai will be starting to compost this year as well, a great way to be environmentally sound, and to use our food waste to make great soil for the year to come!

Come check out the garden anytime, it’s right below the synagogue.
