On Monday, July 5th, Temple Sinai celebrated independence day with a very special morning minyan. There were 22 daveners attending, and one special little girl, named Sofia. Haviv Shaul was the chazan of the day, with a melodious Israeli “neegan”, moreover, Haviv read Torah as well, being that he had yarzeit for his father the entire week, following a sephardic ritual. Rebecca Rosen gave a d’var torah, which was very well received. Three aliyas were given out, with the cohan aliya going to Alvin Rosen, the levi aliya to Michael Lawee and his mom , Violet, and the 3rd aliya was recited by Allan Kalikow a former president of Temple Sinai. The ark was opened and closed by Bill Needleman, and the 2 gabbis were, David Kravitz and Manny Kay. The lifting and tying of the ark was performed by Vitaly and Jane. The psalm of the day was recited by Bernie Kummins. Caryn Lawee did an excellent job of reading excerpts from the Sim Shalom Siddur pertaining to America. We finished with the singing of the National Anthem, and Hatikva. Kiddush was in the back of the small sanctuary, and the daveners were delighted with the warm, freshly baked blueberry muffins compliments of Jane and Sofia.

A wonderful minyan for a wonderful day.
